One of my favorite sites on the web is TED.com. Full of 18 minute talks from many of the greatest thinkers of our era, I head to TED when I need some inspiration. Today was no exception. Take three minutes to watch James Nachtwey’s photography of the impacts of Tuberculosis on communities around the world.
This disease is preventable. This disease is treatable. This disease is about to become a major killer after decades of relative dormancy if we don’t develop better strategies for providing access to basic healthcare around the world.
I know, I know, the economics are difficult. But the costs of addressing this today will be a pittance compared to the costs of addressing the proliferation of drug-resistance disease strains. Perhaps insurance companies are the right folks to capture the difference?
